Urban Solar Illuminates Florida Transit Agency
BEAVERTON, OR – Urban Solar is pleased to announce the installation of RMS Series solar lighting systems at the Hillsborough Area Transit Authority (HART) Wiregrass park-n-ride facility located in Wesley Chapel, Florida.
Providing service to the Greater Tampa Area, HART service covers an area of approximately 1000 sq. miles (roughly the size of Rhode Island) with a fleet of almost 200 buses.
Greater Tampa was one of the top ten fastest growing metropolitan areas in the United States in 2019. Rapid growth and expansion have led to increased traffic and vehicular congestion in the region. Public transit plays a vital role in offering transportation options for commuters which reduces the number of vehicles on the road.
To offer fast and efficient alternatives to vehicular commuting, HART offers express commuter bus service from its fifteen park-n-ride facilities. These routes run to downtown Tampa or MacDill Air Force Base during peak times.
Just as well-lit bus shelters enhance safety and encourage the use of public transit, well-lit parking lots instantly make people feel safe while walking to and from their vehicles. All HART park-n-ride facilities are well-lit for user safety.
Installing grid-connected lighting at the Wiregrass park-n-ride facility would have invariably led to significant costs for trenching and cabling, as well as major site disruption. Alternatively, HART chose Urban Solar RMS Series lighting systems to illuminate the facility. The thirteen systems installed, provide dusk to dawn illumination of the entire parking lot surface.
Like all Urban Solar lighting systems, RMS Series systems are UL Listed as complete systems for safety and carry an industry-leading ten-year warranty. To maximize the battery life, given the hot summers in the Tampa area, the RMS120 systems installed at Wiregrass park-n-ride use Thin Plate Pure Lead (TPPL) batteries.
