Working with Tolar Manufacturing Company to Bring Enhanced Bus Stops to DART Riders

At Urban Solar, we’ve been lucky enough to work with a number of manufacturing partners on transit and general illumination projects. These partnerships have helped bring leading edge solar lighting and power systems to communities in various regions, making public spaces, infrastructure and transportation amenities safer and more enjoyable to use.

Our recent work with Tolar Manufacturing Company is a great example of this collaboration, with our teams’ combined expertise and skills resulting in modern, reliable solutions for transit riders. Our companies’ shared focus on engineering and implementing the best solutions for our customers shone through in the delivery of a series of enhanced bus stops (EBS), or SmartPlaces, for Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART).

Offering a way to improve DART riders’ overall transit experience and increase ridership, the EBS models engineered by Urban Solar and created by Tolar Manufacturing include a number of features to make the process of using DART easy and convenient. Our team secured and incorporated third-party technologies to add CCTV for security purposes, and screens providing up-to-the-minute route updates that riders are growing to expect. Urban Solar also included and installed ECM Connect technology in the new EBS shelters.

– Jeff Brewster, Intercity Transit

“The new Urban Solar improvements and technology have increased ridership more than 20 percent and decreased costs by about 35 percent.”

– Richard Tree, Porterville Transit

“Initial costs to supply and install these lights are lower compared to conventional systems. We will do more of these installations as pathway lighting needs arise.”
